The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) on Saturday charged the BJP-led government in Jharkhand with trying to create ''a Gujarat-like-situation'' in the state. CPI (M-L) Jharkhand secretary Subendhu Sen said in Ranchi the arrest of party legislator Mahendra Singh and the ''repeated harassment'' meted out to him were semblances of the ''undemocratic'' agenda pursued by the Babulal Marandi government against the ''democratic and progressive forces'' in the state. The state government had arrested Singh out of ''political vengeance'', he said adding that the BJP was adopting ''pressure tactics'' against its political rivals realising its ''growing unpopularity'' in the state.
Sen further charged the government with ''terrorising'' the CPI (M-L) activists after the party launched campaign in different parts of the state exposing the government's ''failures''.
Demanding immediate release of Singh who was incarcerated for the past two weeks on ''baseless'' charges, he said CPI (M-L) on Friday took out a march in Ranchi, which was attended among others by party general secretary Deepankar Bhattacharya, to press for the ouster of the state government.
