Islamabad, July 08: Two members of a Spanish-
Argentine expedition have died in an attempt to scale an
8,068-meter Himalayan Peak in northern Pakistan, officials and diplomats said today.
Spaniard Jose Manuel Buenaga, 29, and Argentine Nancy
Noemi Silvestrini, 31, disappeared during the July 5 ascent
of Gasherbrum peak by their seven-member team, a Spanish
Embassy official said.
"Authorities told us yesterday morning that both have
died and the remaining five members have safely returned to
base camp," Spanish charge D'affaires Belen Alfaro told a news agency.
Alfaro said the climbers were at about 7,300 meters
when they fell, making it impossible to send a helicopter to
the area to salvage the bodies.
"They were very close to the peak," she said. Bureau Report
