LA, Nov 03: Emma Roberts, the 12-year-old niece of Julia Roberts and daughter of Eric Roberts, has been cast in the lead of a new comedy pilot under consideration at Nickelodeon. She will play the preteen protagonist of "Unfabulous," which chronicles the life of a musically inclined junior high school student. Created by Sue Rose ("Pepper Ann"), "Unfabulous" began production last week in Los Angeles. "Unfabulous" marks Roberts' first TV role; she has appeared in films including "Blow" and "Spymate" and is attached to star in the upcoming film "Daisy Winters."
"Unfabulous" chronicles the life and times of 12-year-old Ally, who periodically breaks into song to describe her feelings. Roberts will do her own singing for the part.

The comical songs will be composed by Jill Sobule, a singer-songwriter whose credits include the hit "I Kissed a Girl."
