Srinagar, Oct 05: Former Hurriyat chairman, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has been invited to the eighth International Jurisprudence Conference being held in South Africa from October 15. The five-day conference will be held at Capetown under the presidentship of grand mufti of Palestine to discuss the challenges and issues Muslims are facing and to chalk out strategies to deal with them.
Mirwaiz confirmed having got the invitation and said that he had written to the government to issue the necessary travel documents to him.
The government withheld his passport early this year accusing him of indulging in anti-India activities.
The conference organizers have also impressed upon the government to issue travel documents to the Mirwaiz.
This is one of the first invites to the leader after the much-publicised Hurriyat split. Bureau Report
