Amethi, July 10: Congress president's daughter Priyanka Gandhi today said she might campaign in her mother's Lok Sabha constituency in next elections but remained non-committal on her participation in electioneering in other parts of the country.
"I can only say that I may campaign in Amethi," Priyanka
told newspersons here today.
"I will see later," when asked whether she would take part in Congress electioneering in other parts of the country.
She said development work in Amethi has come to a "halt". "It is because our government is not in power. Only 60 per cent of the development fund is being used in the district as the rest of amount is pilfered by middlemen," Priyanka added.
She declined to comment on the reported anti-Sonia statements of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati saying she (Mayawati) was elder to her and she would not utter a word against her.
Priyanka said Congress would form alliance with like-minded parties in the next election as per the party resolution passed in Shimla.
Priyanka said her visit was aimed at mobilising grass root party workers. "I will hold sector-level meetings of workers to know their problems," she said.
She was accorded a warm welcome by party workers at civil lines here on her arrival earlier in the day.
Priyanka reached here today on a proposed three-day tour but had to cut short her visit and flew back to Delhi. The reason for her cutting short visit could not be ascertained immediately but Congress sources claim Priyanka cancelled her programmes as her son was reportedly indisposed.
