New Delhi, June 11: State power ministers will assemble in the capital tomorrow to deliberate on crucial issues including capacity addition and rural electrification. The task assumes importance, given the fact that the deficit of over 70,000 villages will have to covered by the end of the current five year plan.

On the capacity addition front about 100,000 MW is proposed to be added by 2012, of which 41,000 MW is to be created by 2007 with public sector contributing over 11,000 MW.
In order to introduce much needed reform in the sector, Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme has been fine tuned. Projects worth Rs 15,600 crore have been approved during the past year with disbursals placed at Rs 1755 crore.
A sum of Rs 379 crore has been released during 2002-03 under incentive component portion for Haryana, Maharashtra and Gujarat to reduce cash losses. Bureau Report
