Patna, Nov 27: Opposition leader in Bihar Assembly and BJP leader S K Modi today assailed the Rabri Devi ministry for not giving more powers to the Panchayati Raj institutions and civic bodies and urged the Centre to make necessary amendments to the constitution for the purpose.
The state government had failed to provide administrative and financial powers to the Panchayats and civic bodies, he told reporters here.
Alleging that district magistrates, block development officers and Panchayat Sevaks were running the administration while district board chiefs, Pramukhs and Mukhiyas were forced to follow their Diktats, Modi said the state government should immediately take steps for empowerment of the Panchayat Raj institutions and civic bodies.
Modi said a BJP delegation would soon call on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for the purpose.
