suspicions that they were witches, police today said.
The two women - Budhalaxmi Debbarma (70) and Bangalaxmi
Debbarma (50), who were neighbours at Rajudas Para village,
were chopped to death by a group of villagers, who stormed
their homes last night.
Their family members, however, managed to escape on seeing the armed attackers.
The villagers believed the women were practising 'black magic', police said.
Such superstitions are common among tribals living in remote and hilly parts of the state.
A search operation has been launched to nab the culprits, police said.
