Baghdad, Sep 02: Two US military police officers were killed and one wounded in a bomb attack in the Iraqi capital, the army said today.
"The two officers were killed and one wounded when their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device on a main supply route south of Baghdad," said a spokeswoman.
The injured officer was evacuated for treatment after the incident which happened yesterday afternoon, she said, without giving further details. The latest deaths take to 67 the number of US soldiers killed in guerrilla attacks in Iraq since President George W Bush declared major operations over on May 1.
A further 78 have died in accidents or other circumstances unrelated to combat.
Coalition forces here say the daily attacks they face are carried out by Saddam Hussein loyalists and other anti-American extremists. In yet another ambush, two US soldiers were wounded early today when their vehicle hit an explosive device in the flashpoint town of Fallujah, 60 kilometres west of Baghdad, witnesses said.
Two soldiers were wounded in the vehicle that overturned, he said.
