Silchar, June 13: A sinister plan to blow up the historic Khaspur palace of a Dimasa king by Hmar militants has been foiled by the police with the recovery of huge arms. Ten pipeguns and two kg of gun powder were recovered from an area under Lakhipur police station, which could be used by the Hmar Peoples Council (Democratic) under the plan to blow up the palace, situated near Silchar, police said.

Cachar district Superintendent of Police Bishnu Prasad Rabha said the militants recently purchased RDX from Dimapur at a price of Rs 2.5 lakh to execute the plan.

More than 50 people belonging to the warring Dimasa and Hmar communities lost their lives in the ethnic strikes that rocked the district and neighbouring North Cachar Hills during the past few months.

Meanwhile, the Dima Haola Daoga (DHD), a Dimasa ultra group currently on ceasefire, has accused the government of not taking any steps to stop the clashes.
