Shillong, Oct 05: A flypast by jet aircraft, helicopters and parajumping marked the beginning of the 71st anniversary celebrations of the Indian Air Force here today. An MI-17 helicopter and two MiG-27 aircraft flew past this morning over the state capital several times and continued with the sorties.


Paratroopers from the IAF 'Akashganga' team did a spectacular 'free fall' from the aircraft thrice drawing a huge crowd on the garrison ground here. "We are doing all these as part of the IAF's 71st anniversary celebrations. Besides, display of three helicopters - MI-1 (Pratap), Chetak and Cheetah and armament are also on," IAF spokesman Sqn Ldr Binoy Chongtham said.

Free medical check-up for civilians were also conducted.
