Kolkata, June 23: With the prospects of his early release from the jail getting a boost in recent days, a visibly joyous British national and life convict in the sensational Purulia armsdrop case, Peter Bleach, today said that he was awaiting an early decision in this regard. Bleach, who appeared before the Calcutta High Court here today and spoke briefly to the newsmen before security personnel whisked him away, confirmed that he was aware of the efforts of the British government for his premature release from the jail. An immaculately dressed and clean shaven Bleach said that he was hopeful of a positive outcome on the issue of his early release. Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani during his recent visit to London had promised to look into the demand for an early release of Bleach and that he would speak to the law ministry in this regard.
The British government has been making hectic efforts to secure the release of bleach on the principle of equal treatment with his Latvian co-convicts in the case and have made a representation to Advani during his visit to Britain. Bleach, however, said that he would persist with his appeal before the High Court here till his petition for clemency to President A P J Abdul Kalam was granted.
"I will not withdraw my appeal against life conviction in the Calcutta High Court as the five Latvians have also not taken back their appeals," Bleach told a news agency.
