New Delhi, June 19: The Union Home Ministry today received the notification sent by the Uttar Pradesh governmentfor a thorough probe into the murder of poetess Madhumita Shukhla, two days after the State Chief Minister Mayawati recommended a probe by the agency. The murder of the poetess has become a big political controversy in Uttar Pradesh after the name of former BSP minister Amar Mani Tripathi was linked to it. Official sources said that the notification was sent to the cabinet secretariat which would seek comments from the CBI in the case. After the necessary formalities were completed, the CBI is likely to re-register the case filed initially by the state police.

On June 17, Mayawati, while suspending the director general of CB-CID which was investigating the case, recommended the case for a thorough investigations by the CBI.
The 24-year old poetess was shot dead by two assailants in her paper mill colony residence on may nine. The alleged relationship between Madhumita and the former BSP minister created ripples in political circles forcing the chief minister to sack Tripathi from the ministry and hand over the case to CB-CID with a direction to complete probe within a month`s time.
Tripathi has denied any involvement in the murder saying that he was in no way involved in the case and the allegations levelled against him were baseless and the CBI probe would bring out the truth.
