Mumbai, Jan 22: Samajwadi Party today said it would fight the coming elections in Maharashtra on its own strength or form a front with like-minded parties excluding Congress and NCP. "If Congress is not interested in forming an alliance with Samajwadi Party, then this is the only option left to fight the NDA at the national level and Shiv Sena-BJP combine in Maharashtra," NCP state unit president Abu Asim Azmi told reporters here.
"We do not know why Sonia Gandhi is not meeting Mulayam Singh Yadav or seeking alliance with his party," Azmi said indicating that there seemed an indirect effort by everyone to back NDA.
He said: "Congress is running after NCP or BSP and not coming to Yadav. Not just this, it was speculating that Yadav was getting closer to NDA."
In fact, both SP and NDA are parallel lines and will never meet, he asserted.
In Maharashtra, SP is trying to form an alliance with like-minded parties as there is infighting between NCP and Congress, "so that at any cost we want to take steps which will prevent Shiv Sena-BJP combine from coming to power."
If Congress was really interested in preventing SP-BJP combine from coming to power, it should formulate its strategy as soon as possible, Azmi said.
