Srinagar, Nov 03: Ruling People's Democratic Party in Jammu and Kashmir today said National Conference should stop criticising the government just for the sake of criticism and play the role of a responsible opposition which was vital in a democracy. "The opposition is criticising for the sake of criticism. The role of opposition in democracy is very vital and the opposition needs to be responsible", PDP chief spokesman Syed Basharat Bukhari said reacting to allegations of NC leader Ali Mohammad Sagar that the coalition government was promoting New Delhi's agenda in Jammu and Kashmir.
The spokesman said the opposition in the past one year had done nothing except indulging in speculation as to when the coalition government will fall.
Ridiculing Sagar's reported statement that the peace initiative was crumbling even before taking off, he said the dialogue process was on.
The credit of the invitation of talks by New Delhi to Hurriyat and the proposed re-opening of Srinagar-Rawalpindi road goes to PDP-led coalition, Bukhari claimed adding "what we have achieved in one year of our rule is for everyone to see".
He said the National Conference during its rule did nothing to pursue the autonomy of the state even with two-thirds majority in the assembly.
The statements made by NC leaders are result of their frustration at the good work done by PDP-led coalition, he said.
