New Delhi, Jan 19: In a major respite to consumers in the capital, telecom services cell to fixed line and vice-versa became normal after a disruption of more than 48 hours with all links with the private cell operators and state-owned MTNL up by afternoon today.
In a post-mortem exercise, the cellular operators, have sought a meeting with communications minister Pramod Mahajan on his return after a week-long visit to egypt and South Africa, to brief him about the situation.
When contacted, Hutch official Harit Nagpal said that "all links are up... Services both ways incoming as well as outgoing have been normalised". Airtel chief of mobility operations, Anil Nayar, also said, "services had been restored 100 per cent.”
Surprisingly, MTNL top brass, continued to play hide and seek with the media. Both CMD Narender Sharma and chief general manager A H Khan refused to come on line despite numerous attempts. The third cell operator in Delhi, Idea`s official could not be contacted but Cellular Operators Association of India representative said connectivity between their network (IDEA) and MTNL was also normal.
Asked how normalcy was restored, Nagpal said, "Even we are trying to find out. We are happy that links have been restored and consumers will be able to use the services." Bureau Report
