Sibsagar (Assam), Dec 24: Night curfew has been clamped along Assam's border with Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland in Sibsagar district for sixty days to prevent any militant from sneaking into the district. The Sibsagar district magistrate in an order issued here today imposed night curfew from 9 p m to 6 a m prohibiting movement of people during the stipulated period in the five kilometre belt on the Assam side of the border. The authorities also clamped Section 144 PC from today prohibiting assembly of five or more persons, holding meetings or taking out processions for a period of 60 days. Security had already been tightened along Assam's border with Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh following intelligence reports of the banned Ulfa's plan to regroup in Sibsagar. According to intelligence reports many militants have sneaked into their home districts following operations in Bhutan.

There are reports of 230 Ulfa cadres being present in different parts of the district while more than hundred were planning to return home. More than 300 Ulfa militants in Bhutan's 20 camps hailed from Sibsagar district, sources said.
