Jaisalmer, Dec 07: The Centre would begin the process of issuing the multi-purpose national identity card to citizens under a pilot project in the border districts of Jaisalmer and Barmer in Rajasthan this month, official sources said here today. A survey of the Indian citizens living in the border areas will be undertaken in the first phase followed by a door-to-door listing of inhabitants under the project, the sources said. Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani had announced this project under Union Home Ministry on January 2 last with the beginning from Rajasthan as a pilot project, and then in Assam, Gujarat, Delhi, Manipur, Uttranchal, Tripura, West Bengal, Goa, Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu.
