Hyderabad, June 14: Amidst the raging inter-state dispute over Chitravathi project in Karnataka, an all-party meeting in Andhra Pradesh today decided to mobilise political parties at national level in its favour and mount pressure on the neighbouring state to stop works on the controversial project. The meeting, convened by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, decided to send a high level delegation, representing all political parties, to Delhi and led by Chief Minister himself to meet leaders of various political parties and bring to their notice the 'injustice being done' to state by upper riparian Karnataka.
The opposition Congress expressed reservations over such a political mission and suggested that the delegation should instead focus on meeting the constitutional heads and Union Ministers to effectively put across the state's stand.
The Congress, however, extended unstinted support to the government on any measures to rein in Karnataka and ensure that it stopped all works on construction of an anicut across Chitravathi River in Kolar district.
The representatives of ruling TDP, Congress, BJP, CPI (M), Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) attended the all-party meeting.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of the visit by a team of Central Water Commission (CWC) officials to the project site.
The CWC officials are also visiting the state capital tomorrow.
