Mumbai, Mar 13: Fiat India today announced its plans to roll out an entire range of diesel cars from Palio Diesel to adventure diesel across the country shortly. The two new diesel cars from the fiat stable, based on its famous 178 platform, were put up for an 'industrial launch' at its Kurla plant here today. Speaking on the occasion, Fiat India's chairman and Managing Director Alberto Montanari said the Palio Diesel and the adventure diesel will be equipped with a powerful 1.9 litre D-tech engine. Elaborating, Mr Montanari said the 1910 cc power house has been selected based on its engineering suitability for the Indian market, with its most modern indirect injection naturally aspirated Diesel engines in the world. The Palio diesel generates an awesome 63 bhp with a torque of 12.2 kgm, providing adequate reserve power even on high gears, for instant response to accelerator inputs, he said.

The variable capacity compressor also ensures that the car's AC need not be switched off on uphill gradients or for overtaking maneuvers, Mr Montanari pointed out.

''Fiat is committed to succeeding in India with a clear roadmap in place to aggressively achieve our target,'' he said.

Considering that their customers have a sentimental attachment to their vehicles, Mr Montanari said, the introduction of Palio Diesel and adventure diesel seeks to address ''those practical and emotional elements''.

Sharing the company's business plans for 2003, fiat India CMD said the key focus areas for the year will be stability and growth with the introduction of a host of new services-related initiatives that are planned for the months ahead.

''Fiat's strong foray into the diesel segment with its entire range of diesel car on the 178 platform is an integral part of the plan,'' he added.
