Andre Agassi has withdrawn from the $1 million Swiss Indoors tournament, organisers said on Friday.
The American sent a fax on Friday morning to say he was pulling out. Swiss news reports said he had claimed to be "overtired" but tournament spokeswoman Maegi Blaser said he had given no explanation. Organisers would be asking him to explain his withdrawal, she said.
Agassi had been seeded number two at the event, which opens Saturday, and he is the featured player on the official posters for the tournament.
The Swiss Indoors field should still feature the world's top player, Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil. Tim Henman of Britain, the 1998 winner of the tournament, would be the second seed, followed by 1996 champion Pete Sampras of the United States, who was given a wildcard into the event. Bureau Report
