Dhaka, Mar 25: Bangladesh S Commerce Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has tendered his resignation from the cabinet today. ''He went to the Prime Minister’s office at about 2 pm and submitted the resignation letter,'' the private news agency United News of Bangladesh (UNB) reported.

It could not be confirmed whether R Khosru voluntarily resigned or was forced. Also it could not be confirmed whether his resignation was accepted.

His resignation came several days after the BNP MPs in a party parliamentary meeting on March 21 decided to downsize the cabinet.
His personal assistant, when contacted, only said the minister had wished to resign and accordingly put in his papers.

''Sir is now resting. Sorry, he can’t talk to you right now,'' he said.

Chowdhury has reportedly been under fire from the business community, opposition politicians and even his colleagues in government for failing to tackle spiralling prices of essential commodities.
His resignation comes amid a campaign by the main opposition party, the Awami League, and its allies to force Khaleda's government out.
