Srinagar, Jan 31: Srinagar and its adjoining areas had light snowfall this evening, blocking traffic on a 300km long national highway. Today's snow, the season's first, came after rains throughout the day.

A report from Barmulla said about two feet of snow was recorded at Keran and Karnha, bordering the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Reports of snow were also received from the world-famous ski resort of Gulamrg Khilanmarg besides tourist spots of Yusmarg, Duksum, Aharibal, Phalgam and Sonmarg.

About two to three feet snow occurred at the Holy Amarnath Cave, Panjtherni, Sheshnag, Mahaguns and Chandanwari. Hundreds of vehicles and trucks loaded with essential commodities are stranded on the highway following heavy snowfall between Jahwartunnal and Banihal.

The Becon organisation, responsible for the maintenance of the highway, could not undertake road clearance operation as it was snowing.

Reports of light snowfall were also received from Pathitop. Bureau Report
