Allahabad, July 20: Five excise inspectors have been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty in checking the sale of illicit liquor in various parts of the state, official sources said today.

Those suspended were of Mau, Fatehpur, Raebareli, Basti and Sultanpur and their suspension was ordered by the state excise commissioner Ganga Deen Yadav for laxity in controlling sale of illicit liquor in their jurisidiction, the sources said here.
Two senior excise officials of Mau and Azamgarh districts have been issued show cause notice in the wake of seizure of a large quantity of illicit liquor and allied materials recently, they said, adding the excise commissioner has also sought explanation from 26 district-level officials for shortfall in sale of liquor at the licenced shops.
Yadav had suspended eleven excise inspectors and issued show cause notices to 26 others last month following shortfall in revenue generation through the sale of liquor in the state.
