Siliguri, Oct 13: Five persons including a police constable were seriously injured when Congress and CPI-M entangled in a clash at Okhrabari under Dinhata police station in Coochbehar district this afternoon, police said. The SP, S S Panda told reporters that the trouble started when CPI-M supporters went to submit a memorandum to the Congress panchayat pradhan in protest against alleged corruption in the panchayat and Congress activists attacked them. All the injured, two from each party and a constable on duty were admitted in Dinhata hospital. Four persons were arrested in this connection, he said.
Before police took control of the situation, the activists of both the parties fought a battle and three motor cycles were set on fire. Sufficient police force was sent to the troubled area and situation was brought under control, Panda added.
Both Congress and CPI-M raised allegation against each other that opposition activists had hurled bombs causing injury to many of them which, however, was not confirmed by the police.
The Left Front has called a 24-hour Okhrabari bandh in protest against 'Congress attack' tomorrow.
