Mumbai, Sept 15: Maharashtra government today approved the Karnataka formula for admission to medical courses proposed by private institutes with few modifications in the fee structure.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said 25 per cent of the seats would be reserved for the economically backward class and 50 per cent for the general category.
The rest 25 per cent will be for management quota, he said.
For the 25 percent quota for the weaker section, the fee would be Rs 25,000 while for the 50 per cent general category the fees will be Rs 1.5 lakh, Shinde said.
For the 25 per cent management quota, the fee structure will be the same as that in Karnataka, which works out to five times of the general category on the maximum scale.
Shinde said an affidavit on these lines would be filed by the private institutes in the concerned court soon.
The government would also provide fee concession for economically backward class which would put Rs 16 crore burden on the state, he added.
Admission for the 75 per cent, including the general category and weaker section, will be through the Maharashtra common entrance test while the same for the management quota would not be through CET, he said.
