Shimla, Nov 04: Continuing its campaign against the charas mafia, Kullu Police has recovered 8.5 kg of charas from three Nepalis, including a woman at two separate places, district police chief A P Singh said.
The staff at Manikaran Police Post organised a check near Ludernag Nallah in Parbati Valley and recovered 3.5 kg of charas from a Nepali woman, who identified herself as Atti Kumari, wife of Jang Bahadur. She was carrying the drugs in her rucksack in the shape of battis and chapatties and was coming on foot.
She had been taken into police custody and a case under narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against her.
In another catch, the staff of the same police post arrested two Nepalis, one of whom was carrying five kg of charas in his rucksack. The check party detained them near Kochhad and identified them as Karan Bahadur and Resham, both Nepalis. They were also arrested and booked under NDPS Act.
Kullu Police has seized 89.830 kg of charas, 137.130 gm of brown sugar, 310 gm of opium, 525 gm of cocaine and 11.325 gm of smack in 79 cases since January 2003. As many as 85 persons have been arrested in connection with these cases.
Out of the 79 cases, 13 cases had been registered for cultivating cannabis crop in forest and private lands.
