Washington, Oct 16: A father and son have been arrested on charges of illegally brokering the manufacture and export of six armoured patrol boats to Saddam Hussein's Iraq since November 2000. Sabri Yokou, 69, a United States resident who also claims British nationality, and his son Regard Yakou, 43, were arrested after being indicted by a federal grand jury here yesterday.
"The illegal brokering of arms and weapons to our enemies is a serious and deadly business," US Assistant Attorney General Christopher Wray said in a statement.
The two, who face up to 10 years in jail and one million dollars in fines, were charged with violating US arms export control acts and international arms guidelines. They are alleged to have arranged the manufacturer, sale and export of six armoured patrol boats to Saddam Hussein's Iraq between November 2000 and July 2003.
Sabri Yakou was taken into custody Tuesday and brought before a federal judge in Washington yesterday to hear the charges against him.
His son, Regard, was arrested in an unspecified country and was being brought to the United States, said the Justice Department. Bureau Report
