London, June 15: Yuvraj Singh put up a sterling performance to guide Yorkshire to a victory over Derbyshire in their opening Twenty20 Cup game at Headingley but Virender Sehwag once again failed to live up to his reputation in Leicestershire match at grace road last evening. An elegant 44 from 41 balls by lefty Yuvraj and bristling 42 off 22 balls by Michael Lumb, who hit three sixes, including two off consecutive deliveries from Tom Lungley, helped Yorkshire amass an impressive 186 for five in 20 overs.
Yuvraj Singh and Lumb added 58 in six overs for the third wicket but both were eventually dismissed by Di Venuto, who claimed three for 19 in his four overs.
In reply, Derbyshire could make only 141 in 18.1 overs despite a brilliant 67, studded with 11 fours, by Michael Di Venuto. Mohammad Kaif, playing for Derbyshire, was out for nought on the second ball he faced.
At Grace Road, Sehwag's score of 19 proved another disappointment from Leicestershire's principal import.
Licestershire lost to Pakistan by five wickets in their one-day match.
Sehwag, who put up 53 runs for the opening partnership with J K Maunders (25) was first to go for 19, caught by Atif at the wicket off the swing bowling of a skinny 19-year-old Umar Gul.
Gul moved the ball both ways and had Sehwag playing and missing and edging to the leg side.
