Islamabad, Nov 1: Pakistan Cabinet headed by President Pervez Musharraf has decided to hold the inaugural session of the newly elected national assembly on November 6 and complete the process of transfer of power to the elected representatives by Nov 14. The Cabinet, which met here last night has finalised the schedule for transfer of power and fixed November 6 for the inaugural session of the national assembly, reports here said today.
According to the plan approved by the Cabinet yesterday, the constitution would be restored the same day on which the President and the Prime Minister would be administered oath, local daily Dawn quoted officials as saying.
The officials however have not clarified how Musharraf would overcome the reservations expressed by the mainstream political parties to accept him as president as well as his controversial constitutional amendments.
The pro-Musharraf Pakistan Muslim League-Qaide Azam (PML-Q), which has emerged as the single largest party with 99 seats, the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) and the alliance of religious parties, the Muthahida Majlis Amal (MMA) have expressed serious reservations in accepting the amendments, insisting that they recognised only the 1973 constitution without the amendments of Musharraf.
