Raipur, Mar 12: The filing of nomination for the post of deputy speaker of Chhattisgarh Assembly would be held today even as the main opposition BJP have rejected the appeal of Chief Minister Ajit Jogi to name a member from the opposition for the post. The election for the post of deputy speaker will be held in the assembly premises tomorrow at Zero Point, about 20 km from the state capital, assembly sources said. Meanwhile, responding to Jogi's request, the leader of opposition and senior BJP leader Nand Kumar Sai said the party would not nominate any member for the post to "protest the disrespect shown by Jogi to the constitution." In a letter to the Chief Minister, Sai said that since the day Jogi took over the reins of the state, there has been an "attempt to disrespect the culture, tradition of Chhattisgarh besides the constitution and there was an attempt to weaken the legislature by the executive."
"If the deputy speaker Banwari Lal Agrawal had levelled some allegations against the judiciary, it was for the judiciary to take action and not the government or the ruling party leader," the senior BJP leader said.
In the history of Indian democracy, it has always been the opposition who brought in no-confidence motion but here in Chhattisgarh it was the ruling Congress, he said. Because of that, he thought it was not right to name a member for the deputy speaker's post, Sai said.
