Margao, Aug 15: Top seed C S Gokhale of Maharashtra was leading with 19 other players with two points each at the end of the second round on the opening day of second A N Naik, memorial All India Fide Rating Chess Tournament at the indoor stadium here today.
Top seed C S Gokhale who had an easy outing in the first round met stiff resistance before downing Suhas Asnodkar of Goa, while his elder brother Jayant Gokhale who beat Madhuri M Patil in the opening round had to fight it out against local girl, Bhakti P Kulkarni.
Other winners were Sivanandan B S who beat Deepak Chopra while eleven-year-old Harika Dronavalli beat Girish S Mulay. Kartik Muchandi of Goa had an easy win over Jairaj Borkar.
State champion of Goa Mandar Tahmankar who earlier in the day had upset third seed Yogesh Gore maintained a strong performance to draw with Nirav Rajasuba.
Goan players put up a good show with seven-year-old Anuradha Mhamol winning both his matches. Other Goan players with two points are Wilson Cruz, Shubham Pinge and V Sivaswamy who created an upset, beating Ramaraju
