A Taliban official Friday said the militia was ready for the deployment of US ground forces in Afghanistan and would relish the chance to avenge weeks of bombing.
Abdul Hanan Hemat, head of the Taliban's Bakhter information agency, said he could not confirm the arrival of US special forces near the southern city of Kandahar, but the militia was waiting for them.
"We don't want this fight but if there is a ground battle we would prefer that to aerial bombing," he said.

"Over history, the Afghans have proved themselves on the battlefield especially over the past 25 years. Anyone born over the past 25 years knows how to fight.
"Afghans are ready for jihad and we will fight, especially now that Americans have martyred hundreds of our people." Bureau Report
