The strike by state-owned transport corporation employees on the bonus issue entered the fifth day on Tuesday even as the impact of the strike on the commuters was less with more private buses and mini-buses on the roads. Meanwhile, the Madras High Court issued notices to various trade unions, including state transport employees union, and the state government on a public interest litigation seeking to declare the strike as illegal.
The notice, returnable in a week, was issued by a division bench comprising Chief Justice B Subhashan Reddy and Justice K P Sivasubramaniam on the petition filed by one C R Rajasekharan. Various trade unions representing transport workers have decided to intensify their stir from Thursday by organising dharnas and also going in for a 'general strike' later, the joint action council of transport corporation union said.
The strike by employees of the civil supplies corporation entered the second day today, while employees of various cooperative banks in the state went on a day's token strike, demanding bonus.
