New Delhi, Jan 22: Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today met Congress president Sonia Gandhi here. The meeting assumes significance as it comes in the wake of reports that a section of Congressmen in the state are in favour of holding assembly elections in Maharashtra along with the Lok Sabha polls.

Besides this, it is the first meeting between Gandhi and Shinde after the Congress president's talks with NCP chief Sharad Pawar and their decision to work together along with other like-minded parties to defeat the BJP-led coalition at the Centre.
