Milan's Pirelli tower, several floors of which were badly damaged when it was hit by a light plane earlier this week, will reopen on Monday, Lombardy regional chief Roberto Formigoni announced Saturday.
"The eighth through to the 11th floors of the 30-storey building would reopen Monday morning," Formigoni said after meeting work crews at the building on Saturday.
He said that it was possible that as work continued on Sunday a decision would be taken to open other floors in Milan's tallest building.
Formigoni also announced that Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi would attend the funerals Tuesday of the two female local government employees killed when the plane struck the 26th floor of the building Thursday.
Investigators in France, Italy and Switzerland are trying to ascertain whether the 67-year-old Swiss-based pilot, Luigi Fasulo, hit the building accidentally or was committing suicide. Bureau Report
