World Bank vice-president and controller Fayezul H Choudhury, who
called on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at the secretariat here
today, thanked her for this gesture and told her that the bank would
build the new office premises by September next year, an official
release here said.
He also said the World Bank, after shortlisting 54 countries, selected India and then Chennai to set up its back office, last year and it was extremely satisfied over the selection this city, the release said.
Choudhury said the back office, presently functioning in a rented building, began with a staff strength of 70, which has increased to 180 and it was one of the best offices according to World Bank's experience.
Jayalalithaa expressed her happiness over the functioning of World Bank's back office here and its plan to move into its own office, the release added.
