AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa, who has won a favourable court verdict on Tuesday which paves way for her return to power in Tamil Nadu, is planning to consult legal experts before taking a final decision in this regard. The governor, Dr C Rangarajan, now in Hyderabad, is likely to return to the city Wednesday or Thursday morning, when a meeting between them was likely to be fixed.
AIADMK sources said though there was no legal hurdles for the party leader, Jayalalithaa, to become chief minister, she wanted to play safe before approaching the governor. A decision in this regard will be taken by Wednesday. The former chief minister was also keen on going through formalities like convening the legislature party meeting to formally get herself elected as the leader. However, she is yet to make up her mind on convening such a meeting, the sources said.
Prominent party leaders including chief minister, O Panneerselvam, who met her soon after the court verdict, wanted her to take over the reigns at the earliest. She is likely to contest the bye-election from the rural Andipatti constituency due in February next year, which once elected her political mentor, M G Ramachandran.
