Kuala Lumpur, Nov 23: Expecting a boom in tourist and business traffic thanks to New Delhi's 'Look East' policy, the Malaysia Airlines is inducting a good number of Indian cabin crew to attract passengers from Indian destinations. The airlines, which at present operates a dozen daily flights to New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, believes that by having Indian crew on board, the number of passengers from India would go up significantly from three lakhs last year as they would be able to cater to the requirements of the fliers in a better way.
While the first batch of 17 cabin crew from India passed out on November 19 after their graduation from the Malaysia Airlines Academy here, the second batch of 16 students would complete their four-month course in December, according to the airlines' senior general manager, flight operations, Mohd Nawawi Awang.
Enthusiastic to serve as "brand ambassadors", these young cabin crew members told visiting Indian journalists that the centuries old friendly ties between the two countries would be further strengthened.
While presenting certificates to the fresh graduates, High Commissioner of India to Malaysia Veena Sikri observed that it was an example of yet another new level of cooperation and relation between India and Malaysia. Recalling the ancient links, she said "we are deeply conscious of this tie”. Bureau Report
