Ten hurt in poll booth attacks
Srinagar, Oct 01: Ten people, including eight securitymen, were injured as militants targeted polling stations at 12 places in south Kashmir districts of Anantnag and Pulwama using rockets, grenades and IEDs, official sources said.
The sources said militants also fired towards polling stations at Wagat and Soimoh in Tral township of Pulwama but nobody was hurt.
Another IED, planted by militants near a polling station, went off at Nadimarg in Neelu area of Anantnag around 7.45 AM on Tuesday. However, no one was hurt in the explosion as polling had not picked up by that time, they said.
Militants fired from a distance at polling stations at Payinmoh in Kulgam and Motigowaran in Kokernag areas of Anantnag, they said, adding that the exchange of fire was still on at both the places.
Two security personnel were injured when militants lobbed a grenade inside a polling station at Telwani in Anantnag, minutes before the polling started, they said. Militants fired a rocket towards a polling station at Norpora in Kokernag area of Anantnag late on Monday night, they said, adding that the rocket hit a tree near the polling station and exploded with a big bang without causing any casualty.
Grenades were lobbed by militants at polling stations Arikatnu and Kawdoora in Kulgam assembly constituency of Anantnag as a result of which three securitymen and a polling official, Abdul Aziz, were injured, the sources said.
The ultras also exploded a grenade at Bijbehara in Anantnag on Tuesday night wounding a woman, they added. Bureau Report
