Siliguri, Dec 22: Many activists of the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation have expressed the desire to surrender alongwith arms, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhatacharjee said today. Bhattacharjee told newsmen here that a KLO militant had recently surrendered. He, however, refused to give details at the moment of other militants willing to surrender.
The Chief Minister said the government had decided to release the KLO undertrials determined to return to the mainstream and the government was now going into the specifics of about 100 KLO undertrails to implement the decision.
Saying the government might hold talks with KLO activists who surrender, he made it clear that if the talks were to take place they would be only on ''our terms''.
Asked about the government's stand on the Kamtapur Peoples Party, Bhattacharjee said though the KPP claimed to be a political party, there were sufficient reasons to believe that it was providing shelter and funds to KLO militants.
''Did the KPP ever condemn any militant action by the KLO?'' he asked. Bureau Report
