New Delhi, Sept 08: The government today extended the last date for filing Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) returns by a month to November 30. The Central Board of Direct Taxes further extended the date for filing TDS returns to November 30 in respect of tax deducted in 2002-03. "The last date for filing of annual returns was earlier extended uniformly to September 30, 2003, in order to give effect to certain proposals contained in the finance act relating to the filing of return of TDS," an official release said.

The extension comes despite the provisions of the Income Tax Act of 1961, which provides for filing of tax deducted at source under various section of the act at the end of April, may or June of the next financial year. Bureau Report
