Kochi, Nov 08: Kerala Chief Minister A K Antony still enjoyed majority support and neither congress high command nor partners of the Congress-led UDF government were keen for a confidence motion before December one, KPCC general secretary M I Shahnawaz said today. Since an important bypoll was to be held at Thiruvalla in Kerala on that day and elections were due in some other states, there was no need to seek confidence vote at this juncture, Shahnavas told a press meet here.
Asked why government was hesitant to seek confidence vote, he said KPCC president K Muraleedharan had stated that if government decides to go for a confidence vote, Congress would split.
“Should we hasten the split in Congress by seeking the confidence vote now?”, he asked, adding, “we will be the last to split the Congress”.
UDF constituents at their meeting yesterday at Thiruvananthapuram had also decided not to go for confidence vote at this juncture, he said.
