New Delhi, Sept 22: Japan's leading insurer Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Corporation is scouting for a partner to enter into general insurance sector in India while eyeing the life insurance sector also. "We are talking to some of the Indian companies. We are eager to foray into general insurance first. After examining the market, it might be possible to foray into life insurance sector also," Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance general manager (India and Saarc region) Tadaaki Kinoshita said on Sunday.

Mitsui Sumitomo would be the second Japanese company to enter Indian insurance sector after Tokio Fire and Marine, which has tied up with Iffco and Kribhco.

Although Kinoshita declined to give names of companies they were talking to, indications are that the Japanese major may tie up with a manufacturing company having nationwide presence.

He said the company plans to hold 26 per cent stake in the general insurance venture initially but was eager to hike its stake when FDI norms are eased further. Bureau Report
