Beijing, May 09: China today welcomed the recent easing of tensions between India and Pakistan following mutual peace overtures and hoped that the two sides would seize the opportunity to resume stalled bilateral talks. "China hopes the two sides seize this opportunity and continue guiding the situation toward dialogue," Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing told his Pakistani counterpart Khurshid Mahmood Kasur during a telephonic conversation.
Li said China supports the measures that Pakistan and India have taken to improve bilateral relations recently.
Li also stressed that China will continue to work to ease the situation in South Asia along with the international community, reported the country’s official news agency. Kasuri called Li this afternoon and briefed him on the recent easing of the situation in South Asia.
He said Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and the government have always stood for dialogue and a peaceful settlement of disputes.
Kasuri hoped China will continue to work for the easing of the situation in South Asia. The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on bilateral ties, latest developments in Afghanistan, Korean peninsula and Iraq. Bureau Report
