Jammu, Oct 29: With an aim to stop recurrence of
militant attacks on trains in Jammu-Kathua sector, a
multi-pronged strategy has been devised for the safety of
incoming and outgoing trains on Jammu-Pathankot railway track
near the international border, a senior official said today.
The strategy includes floodlighting of track at sensitive
places, clearing the thick bushy growth from both the sides,
construction of sheds and barracks, round-the-clock patrolling
and strengthening the deployment on the 96 km of rail track,
SSP, Railways, H L Fothadar told reporters here.
Six security men will be deployed for guard duty on every km of the track, he said adding after every two km, there will be small observation shed and full-fledged barracks for every five km.
Special surveillance would be done on nallahs which run in to Pakistan Vai IB, which runs just three to five km from the track, he said and added that suggestion for construction of two wheeler road along the track is under consideration for mobile patrolling.
The decision to devise the safety strategy was taken at a high-level security meeting here, he said.
Referring to the explosions triggered by ultras in and outside the Shalimar Express, he said "we want to ensure that these type of militant attacks be stopped in future."
The meeting was attended by IGP, Railway Protection Force, IGP, Crime and Railways, General Manager, Northern Railways and other top officials of state police, RPF and Railways, he said.
