Mumbai, Oct 29: Celebrity kids Bonito Chhabria and Shaan Sippy, detained in Dubai on drug charges, have been cleared after testing negative for the banned substance but two others including Farhan Azmi, son of Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi, reportedly tested positive for the contraband and are likely to face trial.
Bonito was discharged by Dubai Police, his father and leading car designer Dilip Chhabria said. He was released as police found no evidence against him, the senior Chhabria told reporters on telephone from Dubai.
Dismissing speculation that bonito would return to Mumbai in a day or two, Chhabria said his son would instead go to Europe for a week to avoid media glare.
Reports reaching here said Shaan Sippy, a relative of well-known film producer G P Sippy, has also tested negative.
They said Azmi and Prasanth Dandekar remained in detention as they have tested positive and are likely to face trial on charges of possession and consumption of drugs.
The four youth were detained by Dubai Police in a hotel in downtown Dubai on October 20 on drug charges.
If found guilty of possession and use of drugs, the duo could face one to four years' imprisonment while conviction in smuggling of the contraband invites death penalty.
Abu Asim has denied his son was involved in the case and claimed Farhan was innocent.
