Government's Special Envoy on Afghanistan, S K Lambah will lead a second Indian mission to Kabul on Wednesday where he is likely to establish first official contact with Hamid Karzai, leader of the new interim administration and other leaders.
Lambah will be accompanied by Arun Singh, Joint Secretary in the External Affairs Ministry and an administrative team which will work on making the Indian Chancery functional and get it ready for re-opening later this month. Lambah had led the first Indian mission to Kabul last month when he met former Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani, Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah and other Afghan leaders. Abdullah is slated to visit Delhi later this week. His delegation had included eight doctors, para medical staff and a liaison officer all of whom have stayed back. While the liaison officer is overseeing the repair and renovation work of the Indian Chancery and the Ambassador's residence in Kabul, the medical team has started functioning at the Indira Gandhi Hospital.
Official sources said the special flight would ferry humanitarian aid for the Afghan people. Bureau Report
