A major disaster was averted when an oil pipeline of the Indian Oil Corporation burst and caught fire near the Korrukkupet railway station in north Chennai Thursday morning. Police and fire service sources said that the mishap occurred at 1020 hrs.
The fire broke out following oil leak after the pipeline, which was running parallel to the railway track, burst.
The station master, who noticed the blaze, immediately alerted the railways and fire service personnel, who rushed to the spot and put out the flames in five minutes.
The oil supply to the pipeline and power supply to the over head tension (oht) lines were disconnected. Traffic on the track, however, was not disrupted. Bureau Report
