“Bihar government has asked for at least 20 companies of central forces to be deployed along the Indo-Nepal border in the state where a security alert has been sounded on the basis of reports that Maoist rebels were trying to sneak into the country,” official sources said. “The state home department in a recent letter to the Union Home Ministry has sought para-military forces to be posted along the border,” the sources said.
“Although three companies of Special Service Bureau had been deployed in certain pockets along the border, it was not sufficient to check infilitration of the Maoists,” the sources said.
“We have already alerted our securitymen along the border districts of East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Supaul Purnea and Araria neighbouring Nepal to check entry of Maoist guerillas into Bihar,” the sources said.
“The Maoists, who had tried to establish contact with extremist outfits in Bihar and Jharkhand, were in search of sanctuary in India,” the sources said.
“The sources, however, ruled out the possibility of Maoist rebels having established any permanent camp in the state. Close surveillance was also being kept to prevent entry of ISI activists from Nepal,” they added.
The demand for additional central forces was also voiced by top police officials who represented Bihar during a meeting in New Delhi recently. Bureau Report
